Lincoln Park completes 13-1 season

6/1/2006

Lincoln Park concluded its best season in its history at 13-1 in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 11th. Losing only the MCLC championship game to the Columbus Lacrosse Club, the team defeated all of its regular season and both of its eastern division playoff opponents. The team benefited from great midfield play, great balance on both ends of the field and a consistent turnout throughout the season. The team looks forward to the 2007 season.

Lacrosse America is proud to present the first Division 1 men’s lacrosse game in the Chicago area. This regular season matchup between two of Division 1’s perennial powerhouses will give Chicago area players and fans a rare opportunity to see a NCAA Division 1 men’s lacrosse game in their own backyard.

The Great Chicago Shoot-Out
2005 Fa l l L a c r o s s e C l a s s i c
September 17 & 18

April 5, 2005

DEAR FOSSILS,
It is my sad duty to advise that LPLC has lost its first member [not counting those few wayward souls who joined CLC]. "The Franchise" is no more. Mike Stevens, attackman extraordinaire, passed away recently of brain cancer. Mike came to LPLC from Virginia, where he played at Radford. He hobbled through about 4-5 seasons with us, between knee surgeries, and had
probably our highest per-game scoring average, including one 5-goal splurge against Wheaton. He leaves a wife and three children.

A wake will be held on THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2005, 2-8 PM, at Pruzin & Little Funeral Home, 6363 Broadway, Merrilville, Indiana. (219) 980-9070.

The funeral is scheduled for Friday, April 8. Those of you who aren't going to Rome can call the F.H. for details.

Several guys will be there later on Thursday. Hope to see you there. Please pass the word to anybody whose address is missing or wrong on this broadcast.

Peace.
Robby

LPLC Takes the 2004 Great Chicago Shoot Out
September 11-12, 2004

The Lincoln Park Lacrosse Club of Chicago, Il has been left at the alter in 2 of the last 3 shoot-outs. This year they were there for the hardware and nothing less. This year’s tourney brought in teams from Cincinnati, Kansas City, St. Louis, Nashville, Detroit, Minneapolis as well as the NYPD and NYFD teams.

Because a game can be controlled and won by face-offs, LPLC had a definite advantage from the first whistle. Will Krogman #3 (New Trier HS), and Steve Murphy #42 (Northeastern) were huge in setting the tone for the tournament in their persistant domination of this crucial game within the game. Even though fast breaks were few are far between LPLC won 88.4% of all their face-offs. With long stick middies Eric Miller (St. John's University, Min.) and Brian Kelly (Lehigh) insuring success. “Meat head Miller played the middle of the field like the old school Bears of Dent and Singletary” said his fan.

LPLC started each game by having trouble getting into a rhythm which gave its opponents time to tally the majority of their goals. Once the team found its rhythm there was little doubt as to who was going to win each and every match. LPLC knew they were going into this weekend with out any of their main goal producers. In true meaning of the word team LPLC was both poetry in motion and a good ole fashion bare knuckles fight, depend in the situation. Once the team got their grove on the goals started to rein down like the slap of a judge’s gavel. With every goal tallied by the officials the teams they played started to feel the pressure and with every goal scored LPLC played stronger and more focused.

Goals were spread out which never let the opposing defenses rest. Tommy the Wedge Breaker Richter #44 (IL Weselyn U), The Green Brothers, Todd Roscoe #33 (Eastern IL. U), Steve Kadlec #20 (Illinois State), and John Edmondson #16 (Illinois State) provided both long range blasts and also penetrated the hole all tournament long.

When the opposing teams did enter the LPLC defensive zone they were met with brutal tenaciousness and most likely felt it several days later. Nick Lawrence #1 (Skidmore), spear headed the efforts along with Bruce Williams #27 (Allegheny), Kevin Welch #? (falcons), Shawn Yerks # 5 (Georgetown) and in goal Mike Julius #21 (Ohio State).

The defense slid from everywhere and collapsed on any shooter. Adjacent, Crease, or Coma, the opposing offense never saw them coming. Wham bam thank you madam, was the theme for the weekend. When teams did get inside they then had to deal with Mike Julius in the goal. Do I shoot and get stuffed or do I think for a spit second and get de-cleated…. Not many choices but that is what it was.

While opposing defenses would be looking for a downed ball, MJ would be sending it up field or carrying it up himself. Insuring its safe delivery to the attack.

When the attacked was asked for a comment they simply said we are not like those other guys who need their name, number, and school in print to feel complete, we simply are the LPLC attack just doing our job.

Lincoln Park Lacrosse Club advanced to the finals by beating Motor City 8-6, Music City 6-5.

In the final game Lincoln Park started off slow again and fell behind 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. They changed their defensive strategy withdrawing from attempting to strip the ball from the Cincinnati attack and resorted instead to riding hard the bodies of the attackers. This strategy and some patience helped Lincoln Park the gap to an 8-7 deficit at halftime. Lincoln Park’s goalie, Mike Julius (Ohio State) stepped up his play in the second half, getting beat only 3 times, while also stopping a number of point blank shots and fast breaks. LPLC 12 - Cincy 11.

The Ron Kloepfer Tournament MVP award was given to Lincoln Park’s Mike Julius for his play in the nest over the weekend. Kloepfer is a high school friend of organizer Rich DeLeo and the founder of the NYPD Finest team, who was killed in the collapse of the second tower.
